http://s10lenovo.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=3490".........Maybe a bit late, but I have bought a Sierra MC8781 card, inserted it believing that I would get a big screen telling me to remove it (cause of whitelist), but when I booted my S12 (I have a S12 Atom, no ION) it all went just fine. I use Ubuntu on my S12 and it found it, I can connect, but the moment I try to connect the whole modem disconnects and reconnects again. Still trying to find a solution.
What I wished to tell by this is that it doesn't seem to be any whitelist restriction on the PCIe mini port next to the SIM-card slot. I read a lot about this before, and I was pretty sure I would have to insert my modem while computer was turned on... and since there is no bios released for S12 atom and it uses Phoenix, it's not so easy to hack either. Yay for no whitelist!...."
Edit:
I now got it fully working under Ubuntu and Windows. You need to update it's firmware for it to work. Most MC8781 seem to come from a AC881U USB modem, so this is what you will have to find firmware for. After this you need to plug the modem to a computer with Windows to update it's firmware, I used a different modem, opened it, and changed cards, so I used it to connect the modem to my stationary.
I also tried this other modem, Option ICON 7.2, and this as well worked flawlessly in my S12. I got my MC8781 from ebay for $38, that was with 2 antennas....."
